# Computational model
A calculation model is a mathematical model that can be used to perform calculations. An example of a calculation model is a cost-benefit analysis, which allows the expected costs to be weighed against the expected benefits. The analysis is used to determine the profitability of, for example, a product, project or service.
### Example of a computational model in Invantive Control for Excel
The figure shows an example of a cost-benefit analysis for the development of a product based on three different approaches. Different cost prices and selling prices have been applied for each approach, and the bar chart shows that Approach 3 yields the highest profit. The calculations in the model are stored in the database, so that the results are displayed via Invantive Control for Excel in Excel after synchronisation. The advantage is that the user cannot (accidentally) alter the calculations, and another advantage is that the calculations can be managed.
