Invantive Estate for Windows searches across the subjects of the repository from one search box, in the toolbar of the main window. Typing text and pressing Enter, or clicking "Search", shows the rows found in a grid that drops down under the box. ## Restricting to a Subject A combo box next to the search box offers one entry per subject, worded "Search for <Subject>". Choosing an entry inserts its type prefix, such as `type:gbr` for a person, into the search box; the prefix can be typed directly as well and narrows the rows found to that one subject. ## The Keyboard The rows found are walked without leaving the search box: "Arrow Down" highlights the next row and "Arrow Up" the previous one, while the text and the cursor stay in the box. Enter then opens the [[Summaries|summary]] of the highlighted row, the same as double-clicking it. Enter also opens the highlighted row when the results themselves hold the focus, such as after a row has been clicked. Available from release 27.0. Enter keeps searching for the text in the box as long as no arrow key has been pressed, and starts doing so again as soon as the text changes: a corrected search term is searched for, rather than opening a row of the search before it. When the list of earlier searches is showing under the search box, the arrow keys and Enter walk and choose from that list first, and reach the rows found once it is closed. ## The Context Menu Right-clicking a row of the results offers the actions that hold for the row found: - "Open" opens the [[Summaries|summary]] of the row. Double-clicking the row does the same. - "Edit" opens the row in an [[Edit Screens|edit screen]]. - "Copy" opens an edit screen filled with a copy of the row. Fields which have to stay unique are left empty on the copy. - "New" opens an empty edit screen of the same subject as the row found, so a search result of the wanted subject already picks the right kind of row to add. - "New from Same Organisation" opens an empty edit screen for a person, with the organisation of the person found already filled in. The action is offered only for a search result naming a person. - "Delete" removes the row, after a question. - "Audit" shows who changed the row, and when. - "History" shows the earlier states of the row, for subjects of which Invantive Estate keeps a history. A search result for a row that has since been removed offers no context menu at all.
