Invantive Query Tool opens with the log-on window. It is the shared log-on window of the Invantive products for Microsoft Windows, so it looks and behaves the same in Invantive Studio, Invantive Runtime and Invantive Data Loader. The window shows, from top to bottom, the brand and the product, the release, and the licence under which the product runs. ## Choosing a Database "Database" holds the databases defined in the [[Settings]] files, grouped as those files group them. The heading of the collapsed tree names the database currently chosen, as `<group>\<database>`, followed by its description. Each database row carries a star, "Add to Favorites". A database marked as a favourite is offered in a group of its own above the others, together with the databases used recently; see [[Favorite Databases]]. The star is a shortcut, not a copy: the database keeps its place in its own group as well. "Discover Databases" searches the device for databases which can be reached and writes what it finds to a settings file of its own. A profile which holds few databases offers this window at start-up. ## Data Containers Below the database, every [[Invantive UniversalSQL/General/Data Containers|data container]] of that database is shown with its name and a description. A container which needs a user name and a password shows the fields for them; a container which needs neither shows nothing to fill in. The `Dummy` provider is such a container: it is presented as "Sample", an in-memory database with a fixed data set for regression testing and demonstrations, and it connects without credentials and without a network. Providers which take further settings show them under the container, grouped by category. ## Connecting "Automatically Connect" remembers the choice, so the next start connects to the same database without asking. "Connect" establishes the connection; the progress bar below reports how far it is. The window carries two buttons at the top right: the spanner opens [[Invantive UniversalSQL/General/Diagnostics|Diagnostics]], which works before a connection exists, and the cross closes the product.
