A licence has to be registered on a device before an Invantive product for Microsoft Windows opens a database. The licence window opens by itself at start-up as long as the device holds no licence which has been registered and whose conditions have been agreed to. It is the same window in every one of those products, and the licence registered through it is shared with all of them, so the procedure is performed once per device rather than once per product. The licence window states which product and which version it belongs to, followed by the reason it opened: "Your license has not been configured yet, nor accepted.". ![[20260809-runtime-license.png]] A licence is obtained along one of three routes, each described on its own tile: - "Use free license": a free licence, giving access to free data such as Public Data and to applications offered free of charge, and otherwise to limited functionality. - "Try all features": a trial licence enabling all functionality on all data platforms for 180 days. A trial licence can be used at most once per organisation. - "Paste license key from clipboard": the licence key received from Invantive, taken from the clipboard and applied in one action. Copy the key to the clipboard before choosing this tile. As soon as a licence has been established the window reports which licence contract is registered and to which organisation, and the conditions belonging to that licence appear under their own title. The conditions are shown in a language of their own choosing next to the title, and "Copy" places the full text on the clipboard so that it can be kept outside the product. ## Agreeing to the Conditions The product does not continue until the conditions have been agreed to. Until then the window reports "Please agree with the conditions" and the three tiles are no longer available, since a licence has already been obtained. After the conditions have been agreed to, the licence and the agreement are remembered in the configuration folder and the log on window opens. On a next start the licence window no longer appears. ## Which Licence Applies The licence decides which functionality, which platforms and which limits are available; see [[Licensing]]. Where the licence key is looked for on a device, and what happens when a licence contract is not used for three months, is described in [[Invantive UniversalSQL/Configuration/License|License]]. `Invantive Query Tool Multi-Platform` carries a licence window of its own, which differs from the one described here; see [[Invantive Query Tool Multi-Platform/License Registration|License Registration]].
